Hong Kong National Education: Kindergarten Students Wear Red Scarves

Yesterday, Hong Kong Cable TV reported that a kindergarten has been teaching students aged 3-5 how to tie red scarves since 2007. Netizens are shocked and disgusted by the revelation. Some netizens are disturbed that even ethnic South Asian students are in the brainwashing programme.

Here’s the footage used in the news. It comes from a video titled “The Discussion of Experience in Teaching National Education“.

The kindergarten concerned is Tivoli Kindergarten and Nursery in Tsing Yi. In the video, the woman in suit, Carmen Chan Ka-mun, is the headmaster of the kindergarten and she has pro-Beijing background. This school also has an international department.

Here’s the album titled “National Parade 2011-2012” from the school’s web page.

Netizens’ reactions

Vik:  To my surprise, it’s the kindergarten to which my nephew goes…The headmaster is closely related to DAB.

Vik (continues): This kindergarten is separated into Mandarin and international departments. Even in the regular department (*Mandarin), there are many children of ethnic South Asian and Chinese with foreign nationality. I don’t understand why this red scarf and 5-star thief flag drama can be created.

Wong: This school is next to my home. I thought this kindergarten was f**king HIGH CLASS.

Some netizens are disturbed that ethnic South Asian students are in the brainwashing programme.

劉: [Ugly and Evil]Ethnic South Asian child is also brainwashed. Tivoli Kindergarten and Nursery in Tsing Yi.

Chow: The society should go forward. Why do some people curry favour with the people in power by making the society and education go backward….Pathetic!

Hong: A kindergarten in Tsing Yi has taught national education for 5 years! Even kindergarten kids become targets. Hong Kong is going to become North Korea. Chinese leaders and the flag become a collective memory of childhood. However, parents don’t speak up simply because “I don’t like people to be ‘barbaric'”.  I really admire you people, well done, f**king great!

Kwok: Those stupid parents make the future of Hong Kong sink into depravity (I wish that my prediction would be wrong)!

  1. The history of the little red scarves should ring major alarm bells for any freedom-respecting citizen of Hong Kong. This blatant communist encroachment requires a concentrated protest from all sectors of Hong Kong society.

  3. Perhaps someone should start a movement to ask all the protesting parents of the National Education to pull their children from these schools and schools that was once closed or had reduced their number of classes could now re-open to accommodate these “drop-out” students.
