Yesterday, a young netizen from a prestigious school posted photos of his Chinese history book online and criticised its contents as brainwashing. One of the photos shows a role-play, in which students have to persuade others to join the People’s Liberation Army and report their results to teachers.
Persuading Youths to Join the People’s Liberation Army
Your role is to play a staff from the Political Work Office of the Communist Party during the Chinese Civil War, persuading youths to join the People’s Liberation Army in a Guomintang-ruled district which has just fallen under the control of the Communist Party
The Brief of the Activity
1. Form a group of three. One of them plays the staff from the Political Work Office of the Communist Party. The other two play the youths from a Guomintang-ruled district which has just fallen under the control of the Communist Party.
2. The persuader must be fastidious about sincerity and master verbal dexterity like “reasoning” and “stirring emotions”.
3. After the persuasion, report the result to the teacher. The other two classmates must give reasons of acceptance or rejection.
Cheung: Why don’t the whole class play Red Guards and then have a struggle session against the teacher?
Chan: Down with the “stinky old ninith“
小兔子: If I refused to join the PLA in the role-play, would I be given a demerit?
韋一笑: I started to feel the taste of the Cultural Revolution.
Tang: This kind of spying education perfectly coordinates with “National Little Vanguard“, brainwashing students to become tools of the Chinese Communist Party. This is really heartless.
Chan: Alas, commie thieves want to educate this generation of Hong Kong students to become “little Red Guard” and “spy”. This generation is really sad.
簫莖疼: This is worse than forcing fellow classmates to join a gang. This furtive brainwashing is absurder than how gangs permeate school.
In the future, when we get old, we and our children will be exactly like Mainland Chinese. We will submit to the power, live with no dignity, be complacent as long as there is food, have no say at all, be represented to praise the government, human rights we are given and the rule of law; and live in a “utopia” where there will be no dissenting voices.
