The Secret Underground Palace of Hong Kong Chief Executive Hopeful Henry Tang

According to Apple Daily,

Election Scandal
In recent days, Henry Tang denied that there are unauthorized building works in his mansion on York Road of Kowloon Tong. We got hold of the floor plan of 7 York Road basement, which shows that it is like an “underground palace”. It has around 2400 square feet with a wine cellar, a wine tasting room, a multi-purpose movie theater, a Japanese bath etc. This is totally different from Tang’s excuses, which were “dug a bit too deep” and “the basement is a storage room”. Tang, who intentionally built “pool of wine and woods of flesh” (*an idiom refers to the extravagant and promiscuous lives of ancient Chinese kings), bankrupted his credibility. and his road to Hong Kong Chief Executive is even harder.

Hong Kong Oriental Daily even revealed photos of Tang’s “underground palace”. Today (Feb 17th), it was disclosed that the swimming pool, with two glass windows in the bottom, is on the top of the wine-tasting room!

A netizen posted a more detailed floor plan of Tang’s 7 York Road basement, which also shows part of Tang’s 5A York Road home. (Tang owns 7 and 5A York Road.) Many netizen believe the red stair in the middle is a secret passage to the The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government on 6 York Road.

Netizen Reactions

痴膠線的少年: Is Tang dog’s basement directly connected to the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government? It is convenient for him to report to Beijing.

山神: I think the Liaison Office have more unauthorized building works than Tang’s home.

BusterKeaton: (Tang) can welcome them (Officials from the Liaison Office) to have “pool of wine and forests of flesh”.

A netizen created a fake business card making fun of the underground palace

Luk: The new headquarter of HKSAR government is in fact located in Kowloon Tong!

炎蝗只酸: If he becomes Cheif Executive, there will be no autonomy. He is basically a mole.

清新開朗: F***! The basement must be larger than 2400 square feet. It is in fact connected to the basement of the Liaison Office!

A spoof picture of Henry Tang inside his “underground palace”

Pictures of reporters standing on lifting crane became viral and lots of spoofs were made.

Netizen call this incident “the Great Earthquake of Tang Piggy” (唐生大地震) because it sounds exactly the same as “the Great Tangshan Earthquake” (唐山大地震) in Cantonese.
